Death by Jetlag?

Alright I haven’t been posting as much as I would have liked to mainly because I’m having trouble getting over the 12 hour jetlag I’ve got since I work all day and come 9pm I just suddenly get uncontrollably tired and then I wake up at 3am or 4am with my mind in a fog and all I can do is watch movies or lay awake in bed trying to sleep. I can’t even drink a beer when I get home or I suddenly get tipsy and sleepy. One beer! It really is a shock to the system to spend a day in travel and have no time to adjust and be thrown into a job and given 3 assignments on your first day. Not that I’m really complaining though the job is good and the location even better.

Long story short this weekend will see much more content and I’m going to attempt to stay up as long as I can to fight this jetlag and get on a normal sleep schedule.

Started Work.
I now work in the Platinum Tower in Xintiandi, a hip and new area of the Puxi side of Shanghai. Its a really fun area with tons of restaurants, bars and clubs. I will be documenting more of this area in future.
Within walking distance is a really interesting area with a lot of history called The French Concession where much of France’s colonials stayed in and much of the original architecture in the area has a more European flavor. I will also be exploring this area.

Arrived.

Landed yesterday in Shanghai after traveling for nearly a day from Boston. Things I’ve already observed:

  • A lot has changed in the six months since I’ve been here.
  • Significantly less traffic from the airport, must be all those new roads they’ve opened up
  • The “No Pajamas in Public” law now in effect is not really being enforced
  • New “Expo” taxis flying around the streets. These are cool because they are the only taxis that can take you straight into the expo site if you have a ticket. Oh yeah, and they have seat-belts, that’s a first for Shanghai!
  • A bunch of new restaurants have popped up in the area where I live so I’m excited to try them out.

More soon!

Shanghai Blog REBOOT

SO…

My initial attempt to document my life in Shanghai was an utter failure. I posted 4 photos as you can see below. That was roughly 9 months ago. So, I’m restarting this blog and will be posting much more regularly with photos, videos and just daily musings and observations of this strange new land. I’ve already lived here for two months but the place still fascinates me to no end.

Things to look forward to:

  • Time Lapse videos of Shanghai
  • Video reports about the city and the ongoing Expo
  • Podcast style audio posts
  • Amazing and amusing photos

So hope you enjoy the things I find as I explore this crazy city!
